Shawnee on Delaware, PA - The 2008 Pocono Garlic Festival, a Pocono tradition, happening again on Labor Day Weekend, August 30 & 31, and returning to host site Shawnee Mountain Ski Area, is pleased to offer a sampling of its local farms, food vendors, crafters and entertainers for the Poconos locally based, premier food festival. This year’s event will be the largest Pocono Garlic Festival in its 14 year history.

Home Grown
This event is truly all about the garlic and all the garlic featured, sold and used for food preparation at the Pocono Garlic Festival is grown and harvested locally. “The local farmers are reporting that this years Pocono garlic harvest is shaping up to be one of the best ever! Our local farmers are extremely optimistic and have already begun harvesting” reported Paul Milenkowic, owner of Knob View Farm and spokesman for the Pocono Garlic Growers Association. Other local farms providing garlic and produce for the festival includes: the Josie Porter Farm, Rolling Hills Farm, Fairman Farm, Burdick Creek Gardens, Mapleland Farms, Swarmbustin’ Honey, Tassleberry Farm, Apple Ridge Farm, Mountaindale Farms and Ridge Runner Ranch.

Food, Food and More Over 50 vendors will provide a wide range of foods from simple to sophisticated, geared for the “foodie” with discerning taste buds. The 2008 Pocono Garlic Festival is a platform to showcase the regions most pungent garlic and finest eateries. A sampling of menu items from various vendors includes: garlic and basil wrap with pork loins, roasted peppers with garlic and fresh mozzarella, garlic turkey fingers, garlic beef brisket, garlic BBQ chicken, macaroni with clams and garlic, jumbo shrimp with garlic butter sauce, creamy garlic soup, creamy garlic pie and even garlic kettle corn, garlic ice cream and garlic lemonade. Awesome Artisans Local artists and crafters will exhibit a variety of hand crafted garlic themed creations and wears at this years two day event. From homemade wood items to pottery to jewelry and even handcrafted soaps, will all be on display. A partial list of participants includes: Mudworks Pottery, Word of Mouth Jewelry, Me Crazy Creations, European Crafts, Icis, Wonder Wheel Studio, Barley Rose Body Care, Awesome Temp-Toos, Classy Crocks & Dips, La Cigale, Straw Mountain Herbs and Will of the Wisp.

Non-Stop Music and Shows With two outdoor stages, an outdoor activity area, indoor theatre, strolling acts and Shawnee Place Play and Water Park, festival goers will enjoy a wide variety of non-stop live music and “garlic themed” novelty shows and entertainment geared towards the whole family. Educational Lectures Festival organizers are pleased to welcome back Bob Dunkel to the 2008 Pocono Garlic Festival. Bob is a member of the Garlic Seed Foundation and editor of the Garlic Press. Bob will present two informative lectures on “Growing Your Own Garlic” and “Garlic History, General Health and Cooking Issues”. Bob, who hails from Western New York, is devoted to garlic growing with out the use of chemicals or supplements.
