Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA – Shawnee Mountain and the American Cancer Society will be teaming up on February 9 and 10, 2019 to increase awareness for cancer prevention and raise money for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services. Two events will be held at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area: Paint the Mountain Pink and the Joe Riesle Memorial Ski Race Against Cancer.
Paint the Mountain Pink, a breast cancer awareness event, will be held on Saturday, February 9. All Shawnee Mountain guests are encouraged to show their support and wear pink. The first 200 lift ticket purchasers will receive a free pink baseball cap featuring an embroidered pink ribbon and Shawnee Mountain logo.
The Joe Riesle Memorial Ski Race Against Cancer will take place on Sunday, February 10 at 10 a.m. This race was named in honor of Joe Riesle, a long-time Shawnee Mountain Ski School Supervisor who passed away in 2012. The intermediate-level course will be set up on the Upper Tomahawk Trail and will use the traditional NASTAR format. Skiers can take two runs on the course for $7 or five runs for $14. Guests can also contribute to the Race Against Cancer by purchasing a donation card at the Ski School desk or in Guest Services. All of the race and donation card proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
Raffles will also be held throughout the weekend featuring some great prizes.
“We raise a lot of money every year for the American Cancer Society,” said Tamy Galfo, Food & Beverage Director at Shawnee Mountain. “Cancer Awareness Weekend is a great event for an important cause!”
